In this assignment, I was tasked with illustrating a line from a poem of my choice. I decided to illustrate my all-time favorite, the poem "Jabberwocky" by Lewis Carroll, and to bring the lines "and as in uffish thought he stood/the Jabberwock, with eyes of flame" to life. My main goal for the composition was to make the character appear small and isolated in the shadow of the terrifying Jabberwock. My final piece focused its palette mostly on muted cool tones, centered its characters in the composition and composed the canvas as a wide shot to emphasize the character's solitude and helplessness.
